How Do I Know if Counseling Would be Helpful?
Counseling is appropriate when symptoms negatively affect relationships and/or interfere with normal, daily-life functions. Consider the following list of symptoms:
- Irrational fears and/or excessive anxiety (possibly panic attacks)
- Depression
- Feeling on edge, irritable, or agitated
- Explosive emotional outbursts or suppressed rage
- Uncharacteristic avoidance of social activities, including withdrawal from family and friends
- Others have expressed concern over changes in your behavior
- Changes in appetite (significant weight loss or gain) and sleep patterns (hyper- or hypo-somnia)
- Suffering from unresolved childhood traumas, including physical and sexual abuse or neglect
- Dissociation
- Chemical dependence
- Self-injury--cutting, burning, reckless behavior
- Dissatisfaction or conflicts in family situation (including marital conflicts)
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, counseling may be the right move for you. Contact Us to set up an appointment.
